Work Study
Work Study one of three major types of financial aid; grants and loans being the other two. If you want a Work Study job follow the steps.
Step 1:
Fill out your Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) and indicate your interest in having Work Study considered part of your financial aid package in Section 1 (question 26).
Step 2:
SUNY Canton's Financial Aid Office determines who is eligible and makes awards. If you have questions about your award and whether or not you have Work Study funds, contact the Student Service Center (315-386-7616) in French Hall. You will be notified by Financial Aid of your Work Study award.
Step 3:
Once you know you have a Work Study award, come to Career Services in French Hall. Work Study jobs are posted on the bulletin board in the lobby. Write down the numbers of jobs in which you are interested, and bring them into the Career Services Office. You will be given the contact information for the person supervising the position. You will also be given some paper work to fill out for which you will need:
- Drivers License or College ID and
- Social Security card or Birth Certificate
If you have questions about forms of ID call Career Services (315-386-7119)
Step 4:
Contact your prospective supervisor about your interest in their position. Be polite. Be professional. You are applying for a job. Work Study guarantees a job. Your attitude can insure that it's a job you WANT.
Step 5:
If the supervisor wants to hire you, she/he will sign a form given to you at Career Services. Bring that form back to Career Services, and you are done. From that point your supervisor will monitor your work and submit your time sheets to Payroll. Students are paid BI-WEEKLY starting FOUR WEEKS AFTER their first hours are submitted.
