Course Credits

Students enrolled in their final semester of their 4-year criminal justice degree can enroll in the Law Enforcement Academy as an internship site, receiving Phase I pre-law enforcement certification. In order to qualify as a student intern recruit, you must also register for 15 credits of JUST 430 Culminating Experience in CJ, complete the academy application, pass the physical fitness test, interview and background check.

Pre-Employment students do not receive certificates from the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services (only hired police officers receive state certificates). Pre-Employment students, upon completion of the police academy will have their college transcript stamped: COMPLETION OF THE PRE-EMPLOYMENT BASIC POLICE TRAINING. The college transcript will also list 15 completed credits in JUST 430 with an assigned letter grade (A-F) that can be transferred back to the home institution (if enrollment through a SUNY institution, other than SUNY Canton).
