Sawyer

Lindalee Sawyer '83

Lindalee loved the SUNY Canton campus on her first visit, which made it easy for her to choose to attend and eventually graduate in 1983 with an A.A.S in Early Childhood Education. She was active on campus, serving as a member of the Inter Residence Hall council, Mohawk Dorm President, and she also participated in women's softball. She left Canton knowing her dream of becoming a teacher was getting closer thanks to the great start she had there. She still keeps in contact with quite a few of her friends that she met while attending Canton.

Lindalee completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Empire State College then her Master’s Degree in 2007 in Curriculum and Instruction: Reading. She taught in Baldwinsville, NY, for eight years before deciding to move to Raleigh, North Carolina where she taught both Kindergarten and First Grade at Glendale Kenly Elementary in Kenly, NC for over 20 years.

While in North Carolina, Lindalee came "home" in the summer to visit family yet found time to mingle at Alumni Weekend or other alumni events. Proud to be a SUNY Canton alumnae, Lindalee approached the Office of Alumni Affairs about gathering SUNY Canton alumni who lived in North Carolina for events. She encouraged alumni attendance at events in Raleigh, Charlotte and Wilmington. She also began a Facebook page for SUNY Canton alumni in North Carolina to help keep alumni posted on things happening with the SUNY Canton community.

Now semi-retired and back in New York State, Lindalee was eager to become more active with the Alumni Association Board, especially to help with more alumni gatherings! She is hoping to reconnect with alumni who have yet to come to an alumni event since leaving Canton.

Lindalee resides in Jacks Reef, NY, and is working with the Port Byron school district in the Reading Department. She is glad to be back home although she misses the warmth of the south!

Larry has attended many alumni events, including lunch gatherings at his workplace, New York Air Brake, over the years. He would like to take the workplace gathering to the next level to better support the objectives of the Alumni Association, perhaps by getting different companies to sponsor alumni employees at Alumni Weekend, or organize some other company related activity or retreat on campus.

Larry has held several positions in the engineering department at New York Air Brake in Watertown over the past 42 years, but he is currently in the systems engineering group and serves as Senior Systems Engineer.
