2007 Kangaroos Golf Classic
(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton athletic department held their 6th
Annual Kangaroos Golf Classic on Saturday, August 18 at Partridge Run
Golf and Country Club in Canton.
This year a tournament-record 144 golfers turned out for the four-man captain-and-crew event. All the proceeds that were generated will go towards the now four-year athletic program at SUNY Canton.
There were four flights and prizes handed out for the top three teams in each flight. Listed below are the winners in each flight.
Flight 1
First Place (Craig Woods, Mark Rixon, Don Foley, Dave Northrup). Second
Place (Mark Hall, Roscoe Towne, Fred Hall). Third Place (Mike Para,
Mike Tooley, Andrew Para, Dave Cellura).
Flight 2
First Place (Jim Kane, Chris Downs, Sherrie Dobbs, Bryan Grant). Second
Place (Bob Morrell, Eric Morrell, Mark Mallette, Mike Morrell). Third
Place (Joe Furnia, Greg Furnia, Todd Furnia, Paul Baxter).
Flight 3
First Place (Reggie McDonald, James McDonald, Terry McDermid, Tim O'Connor).
Second Place (Kelly O'Neil, Eric Chilton, Jason Casey, Aaron Stiles).
Third Place (Gary Bushaw, Bob Raymo, Fred Monaco, Gil White).
Flight 4
First Place (Diane Para, Missy West, Preston Carlisle, Tom McCarty).
Second Place (Peggy Levato, Beth Irvine, Joe Parisian II, Joe Parisian
III). Third Place (Julia Rose, Chris Rose, Chris Dow, Jackie Dow).
There were also numerous contests held throughout the tournament.
Closest to the pin winners included: Teresa Minckler and Tim Mickle
(Hole #8), Allison Vooche and Reggie McDonald (Hole #17), Minckler and
Eric Morrell (Hole #15), and Christine Scuderi and Mike Morrell (Hole
#6). Closest to the line winners were Minckler and Dick Lesperance (Hole
#11) and longest drives were captured by Scuderi (Hole #14) and Andy
Bracy (Hole #3).
The shootout winner (after driving the green on #17) was Corey Jordan, Director of the SUNY Canton Campus Store, who stuck his shot from 100 yards out to within 30 inches of the cup. The $500 putting contest was won by Randy Sieminski and Mike Herzog (left, waching his tying putt) who decided to split the money after going several rounds in a putt off.
Following the tournament a steak dinner was held at the course provided by Mulligans Restaurant. After dinner the awards were handed out along with numerous door prizes that were donated by local businesses, organizations and individuals. A 50/50 drawing was held that was won by SUNY Canton Director of Food Service Sue Law who graciously donated the money back to the athletic department. Another drawing was held for a Roo Package that included over $250 worth of apparel and merchandise that was donated by Corey Jordan from the Campus Store.
