(Canton, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton hosted a full field of 144 golfers in the 2008 Kangaroos Golf Classic on August 16 at Partridge Run Golf and Country Club in Canton. All the proceeds from the four-man captain and crew tournament will go directly towards the Roos growing four-year athletic program and the student-athletes at SUNY Canton.

“One of our main goals is to provide a fun-filled day for the golfers as our way of saying thank you for all the incredible support our department and student-athletes receive,” said athletic director Diane Para. “This day wouldn’t be possible without them as well as all of the generous sponsorships that we receive.”

The St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union and Victory Promotions were once again corporate sponsors for the event.

The field of golfers was broken down into four flights with prizes awarded to the top three teams in each flight. The winners from Saturday’s tournament included:

The closest to the line contest was won by Kathy Dodge and John Mousaw (Hole #11) and the longest drive won by Dani Bracy (Hole #14) and Aaron Jones (Hole #3). Art Barton won the 100-yard shootout knocking his shot within a foot of the cup on the 9th hole and Tim Green (below with Diane Para) won the $500 putting contest that was sponsored by Preston Carlisle, Esq. Grady Harrington nearly holed a 50-foot putt that would have won him $2,500 but his shot just grazed the left edge of the cup.

Following the tournament a steak dinner was held at the golf course catered by Dennis Walsh and his staff at Mulligans and multiple door prizes handed out that were generously donated by area businesses and organizations.

The SUNY Canton athletic department would like to thank Kevin Maginn and his entire staff at Partridge Run for all of their efforts and also to all the hole sponsors that make the event possible each and every year.
