Helak Named Volleyball/Softball Coach

(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton athletic department is pleased to
announce that Mary Helak has been hired as the new women’s volleyball
and softball coach.
Helak was an assistant softball coach this past season at Virginia Wesleyan College and has coached in numerous volleyball and basketball camps in the Buffalo area. Helak has also coach girl’s basketball at St. Mary’s High School in Lancaster, N.Y.
Prior to coaching, Helak was a standout volleyball and softball player at Medaille College in Buffalo. She was an All-American and all-conference volleyball player and earned all-conference honors in softball while serving as a captain in each sport.
“We are very excited to have Mary Helak as our new volleyball and
softball coach,” said SUNY Canton Athletic Director Diane Para.
“We are eager to move these two programs in the right direction
and having a full-time coach is the necessary first step. We are confident
we have found the right person to begin this process in Mary. She brings
a great deal of experience and enthusiasm to the job and we are happy
to have her on board.”
