(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team scored three goals in a span of 1 minute, 39 seconds of the second period to pull away to a 5-2 win over Hudson Valley Community College Sunday afternoon at the Canton Pavilion. The Roos, who won their fifth consecutive game, were playing at home for the first time this season and they improved to 3-1 in Region III and 5-2 overall. The Vikings dropped to 1-4 in the region and 2-4 overall.

The three-goal outburst broke open a 1-1 game four minutes into the second period. The first goal came at the 15:12 mark when Nick Montour (Akwesasne, N.Y.) made a strong rush down the right wing and fed Kyle Simonds (Binghamton, N.Y.) out front who stuffed the puck home. The Roos then took advantage of two defensive zone turnovers by the Vikings. At the 16:26 mark, Montour picked off a pass and scored unassisted for what would be the game-winning goal. Just 25 seconds later Mike Pearman (Anaheim, Calif.) took a pass from Rick Simone (Marcy, N.Y.) after a turnover and flipped a shot past Hudson Valley goalie Chris Pakatar.

Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) finished off the scoring when he took a nice, long pass off the boards from Roos goalie Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) and skated in all alone on Pakatar.

Pat Otwell (Orchard Park, N.Y.) also scored for the Roos and Merrow finished with 23 saves.

Sean Caruso and Scott Walker tallied goals for the Vikings and Pakatar also had 23 saves.
