(Rochester, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team evened their record on Friday night with a 5-2 win over the University of Rochester at the Genessee Valley Park Ice Rink. The Roos improved to 2-2 overall while Rochester, a Division I ACHA team, dropped to 1-10.

Both teams traded goals in the first two periods as the score was deadlocked at 2-2 heading into the third period. SUNY Canton dominated in the final period scoring three goals to pull away for the win.

Mark Stewart (Gansevoort, N.Y.) scored in the first period and Pat Otwell (Orchard Park, N.Y.) found the net in the second period for the Roos. Josh Anderson and Demetrius Kokkinis scored for Rochester.

Otwell then set up Scott Zaryski (Oswego, N.Y.) for the game-winning goal at the 6:33 mark of the third period. Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) and Mike Pearman (Anaheim, Calif.) each added an insurance goal for the final score.

Talamo and Zaryski also had assists in the game. Sam Rooney (Ellington, Conn.) chipped in with two helpers and Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) stopped 21 shots in goal.

Mark Ingram recorded 35 saves for Rochester.
