(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team saw their three-game unbeaten steak come to an end on Saturday as they lost to Monroe Community College 5-3 at the Canton Pavilion.

The Roos got off to a quick start when Rick Simone (Marcy, N.Y.) scored just 40 seconds into the game from Sam Rooney (Ellington, Conn.) and Tim Osoway (Chase Mills, N.Y.).

But the Tribunes (6-1 Region III, 6-1-1) answered by scoring the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead with 7:22 left in the first period.

Dylan Gronowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) then trimmed the lead to one for the Roos (5-3-1 Region III, 7-4-1) with an unassisted goal at the 15:36 mark of the first period.

SUNY Canton then tied the game at 3-3 after a scoreless second period when Nick Montour (Akwesasne, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal of his own at the 10:59 mark of the third period.

Monroe went ahead for good three minutes later on an unassisted goal from Tom Pappa and then the Tribunes added an insurance goal with 4:38 left from Kyle Easton.

Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) stopped 27 shots for the Roos.

Danny Kuntz had 19 saves and Chris Matott, Andy Orsini and Jeff Osler also scored for Monroe.

Both teams will square off again on Sunday at 2:30 at the Pavilion in the Roos final game of the first semester.
