Roos 4th Seed In 2008 NJCAA National Tournament
(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team has been awarded
the fourth seed in the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association
that will be played in Canton Feb. 29-March 2.
The Roos begin their quest for their 16th national championship when they open against No. 5 Mohawk Valley Community College on Friday, Feb. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Canton Pavilion. The winner will face top-seeded Monroe Community College, who won the Region III regular season title, on Saturday, March 1 at 3 p.m.
North Country Community College is the third seed and will play No. 6 County College of Morris (N.J.) at 6:30 in the other quarterfinal game on Friday. That winner advances to play defending champions and second seed MSU Bottineau from North Dakota at 6:30 on Saturday.
The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, March 2 at 2 p.m.
SUNY Canton won all three regular season matchups with Mohawk Valley, two in very dramatic fashion. On Dec. 2 the Roos rallied from a 4-1 third period deficit to pull out a 5-4 overtime win and just recently on Feb.17 SUNY Canton scored three goals in the final six minutes of regulation to squeak out a 3-2 win. The Roos also beat the Hawks 4-1 at the Region III Showcase on Jan. 13.
