O'Connell Scores Twice To Lead Roos Past Southern
New Hampshire 3-2
(Manchester, N.H.)- SUNY Canton won their second game of the weekend as they topped Southern New Hampshire University 3-2 in a men's ice hockey game Sunday afternoon in Manchester. The Roos moved above .500 with the win and are now 6-5 overall.
Kevin O'Connell (Cadyville, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Roos with his first of two unassisted power play goals at the 2:39 mark of the first period.
The Penmen scored the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead. Michael Sabo and Troy Maybury each scored for the Penmen during a one-minute stretch to pull ahead.
Mark Stewart (Gansevoort, N.Y.) tied the game when he scored for the Roos with 7:43 left in the opening period off assists from Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) and Pat Otwell (Orchard Park, N.Y.).
O'Connell then scored the game-winning goal with his second goal just a few seconds into the third period.
Dustin Deleel (Massena, N.Y.) had 13 saves and Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.Y.) had 18 saves as the two combined for the win in goal.
Shane Brooks had 25 saves for Southern New Hampshire.
