(Canton, N.Y.)- It was home sweet home for the men's ice hockey team as they played their first game at the Canton Pavilion on Saturday after playing their first 11 on the road. The Roos held off Mercyhurst College, ranked 21st in the latest ACHA Division I national poll, 4-3 in an Eastern Collegiate Hockey League game.

The Roos scored the only goal of the first period. Joel Cardinal-Shultz (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) scored from Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) and Kevin Moro (Congers, N.Y.) for a 1-0 lead after one period.

Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) stretched the Roos lead to 2-0 when he scored unassisted and short-handed at the 6:24 mark of the second period. Mercyhurst trimmed the lead to one a minute later when Kenny Hunt scored. Pat Otwell (Orchard Park, N.Y.) then put the Roos back up by one when he scored from Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) at the 12:30 mark of the second.

SUNY Canton extended the lead to three goals at 4-1 off a goal from Levy 3:39 into the final period.

Mercyhurst then scored two goals in less than two minutes to close the gap. Tyson Geick scored at the 6:56 mark and Chad Thompson scored at the 8:16 mark.

Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.Y.) stopped 24 shots in goal and Adam Falkner also had 24 saves for Mercyhurst.
