Small logo Roos Rally To Beat Niagara 5-4 in OT

(Niagara, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team had to rally from a deep hole to keep their current winning streak alive. The Roos won their 13th straight game Friday night beating Niagara University 5-4 in overtime. The Roos, ranked 25th in the latest ACHA Division I poll, improved to 7-2 in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League and 17-5 overall.
Niagara scored four straight goals to start the second period taking a 4-1 lead at the 11:32 mark of the second period.

Two minutes later Joel Cardinal-Shultz (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) ignited a run of four straight SUNY Canton goals when he scored from Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) and Pat Otwell (Orchard Park, N.Y.). Garrett Rosenbaum (Charleston, S.C.) then trimmed the lead to 4-3 with a power play goal with 3:57 left in the period and Scott Zaryski (Oswego, N.Y.) sent the game into overtime scoring at the 14:18 mark of the third period.

After Niagara was whistled for a holding penalty in overtime, Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) scored his team-leading fourth game-winning goal with just 48 seconds left in the extra session.

Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) also scored for the Roos and Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) had 31 saves for his ninth win of the year.

Kevin Morrison had two goals and an assist for Niagara. Nick Gollaher added a goal and an assist and Keith Rybka recorded 24 saves.
