Small logo Roos Clip Niagara 5-3 For 14th Straight Win

(Niagara, N.Y.)-Scott Zaryski (Oswego, N.Y.) scored with 2:27 left in the the third period propelling the SUNY Canton men's hockey team to a 5-3 win over Niagara Saturday afternoon in Niagara. The red-hot Roos won their 14th straight game and improved to 8-2 in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League and 18-5 overall.

SUNY Canton, ranked 25th in the nation among ACHA Division I schools, scored the first three goals of the game. Rick Simone (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) scored two goals in that stretch, at the 9:01 mark of the first period and the 16:51 mark of the second period. Those goals were sandwiched around a goal by Dan Don (Gouverneur, N.Y.) 2:46 into the second period.

Niagara didn't go away and scored three straight goals to open the third period to slice the Roos lead to one. Zaryski, who scored the tying goal forcing overtime against Niagara on Friday, then won the game off an assist from Simone at the 17:33 mark of the final period. Mark Stewart (Gansevoort, N.Y.) added an empty-net goal unassisted with 51 seconds left in the game.

Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) stopped 31 of 34 shots in goal for SUNY Canton to win his 10th game of the season.

David DiMizio had a goal and an assist for Niagara. Ryan Hughes and Jeff Osler also scored and Keith Rybka had 28 saves along with one assist.
