Roos Fall to Mercyhurst 3-2 in ECHL Tournament

(Rochester, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team saw their 20 game winning streak come to an end on Friday as the second-seeded Roos lost to No. 3 Mercyhurst College 3-2 in the semifinals of the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League tournament in Rochester. The Roos had a tremendous first year in the American Collegiate Hockey Association finishing 24-6.
Cody Steele scored the game-winning goal for the Lakers with 7:56 left in the third period.
SUNY Canton got on the board first at the 9:37 mark of the first period when Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) scored a power play goal from Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.). That 1-0 lead lasted until the 16:25 mark when Kenny Hunt connected from Jeff Monnin and Steele.
Mercyhurst took their first lead of the night 1:48 into the second period when Brian Stefanski scored from David Gaines and Mike Herhal. The Roos tied the game for the final time with 5:22 remaining in the second period when Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) scored from Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) and Scott Zaryski (Oswego, N.Y.).
Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) made 22 saves and finishes the year 13-3. Adam Falkner had 33 saves for Mercyhurst.
