Roos Snap Skid With 7-2 Win Over Mercyhurst

(Erie, Pa.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team scored the first four goals of the game and erased a three game losing streak by downing Mercyhurst College 7-2 Friday night in Erie, Pa. The Roos improved to 1-0 in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League and 1-3.

Brad Wilson (Ottawa, Ontario) started the scoring for the Roos at the 16:11 mark of the first period for the a 1-0 SUNY Canton lead.

Jeremiah Hardin (Alpharetta, Ga.) made it 2-0 5:04 into the second period and then Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) scored two consecutive goals to make it 4-0 Roos. Mercyhurst broke up the shutout at the 8:46 mark of the third period when Shane Vorndran scored a power play goal.

The Roos answered with two consecutive goals in the third from Mike Pearman (Columbus, Ind.) and Corey Frizell (Orleans, Ontario) to put the game away.

John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) also scored for SUNY Canton and Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) had 29 saves in his fourth straight start.

Rob Kelley and Alex Larrson combined for 29 saves for Mercyhurst.

The two teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
