Roos Dominate RIT 8-1

(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team enjoyed the pleasures of finally playing a home game as they dominated Rochester Institute of Technology 8-1 Friday night at the Canton Pavilion.
Dan Don (Gouverneur, N.Y.) connected for three goals for SUNY Canton who had played their first 11 games on the road. The Roos are now 4-1 in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League and 5-7 overall while the Tigers dropped to 1-7 in the ECHL and 2-14 overall.
SUNY Canton out shot RIT 42 to 12, including an 18-4 advantage in the first period. But the score was just 1-0 after the first stanza thanks to 17 saves from Andrew Miller who finished with 34 saves on the night.
The Roos scored two quick goals in the second period and one in the final minute to stretch the lead to 4-0 and then pumped in four more in the third for the final margin.
SUNY Canton goalie Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) saw his bid for his first shutout of the year stopped at the 10:18 mark of the third period when Josh Scanlon scored unassisted for the Tigers only goal. Merrow finished with 11 saves.
Jeremiah Hardin (Alpharetta, Ga.) added two goals and one assist for the Roos who will play RIT again on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Pavilion. Adam Fedor (Orleans, Ontario) had a goal and an assist. Chris Giczewski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) and Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) also scored and Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) contributed three assists.
