Small logo (Morrisville, N.Y.)- Despite a season-high 44 saves from Dustin Deleel (Massena, N.Y.) the SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team lost to Morrisville State College 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Morrisville.

It was the first loss for the Northstars this season as they dropped to 4-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Region III.

Deleel made 20 saves in the first period while giving up two goals and then turned aside the next 24 shots he faced over the final two periods.

The Northstars were held off the scoreboard for the first two periods and finally broke through with 18 seconds left in the game.  Kyle Laurie (Canton, N.Y.) carried the puck deep in the offensive zone and slid a pass to Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) whose shot was turned aside by Mustangs goalie Dean Smith right to the stick of Northstars forward Matt Bailey (Parishville, N.Y.) who buried the rebound for his second goal of the year. The Northstars weren't able to get another shot on goal after that as Morrisville hung on for the win.

Morrisville State's first goal came at 6:10 of the first period when Chris Cacasce scored a power play goal from Corey Smith and Dana Calderone.  Their second goal came later in the period at the 15:03 mark when Nick Carelli scored from Mark Luongo just as the Northstars killed off a power play.  Dean Smith recorded 25 saves for the Mustangs in goal.
