(Canton, N.Y.)- Matt Bailey (Parishville, N.Y.) scored his first career hat trick and had one assist leading the SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team past Mohawk Valley Community College 6-2 Saturday afternoon at the Canton Pavilion.

The Northstars improved to 6-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Region III while the Hawks dropped to 8-3 and 1-3 in the region.

After Andreas Runesson put Mohawk Valley ahead 1-0 at the 8:51 mark of the first period, Bailey tied the score three minutes later igniting a run of four straight goals, including Bailey's second, up to the 15:22 mark of the second period. Matt Battaglini (Endicott, N.Y.), and Austin Chase (Newport Beach, Calif.) also scored in that stretch.

Bailey capped off the hat trick scoring from Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) and Kyle Laurie (Canton, N.Y.) with 1:08 left in the second period and Chase netted his second goal with 30 seconds left in the game for the final score.

Dustin Deleel (Massena, N.Y.) stopped 31 of 33 shots in goal for SUNY Canton.

Mike Chiellino also scored for the Hawks and Chris Bruno recorded 30 saves in goal.
