(Canton, N.Y.)- Anthony Gruppo (Williamsville, N.Y.) scored three goals leading the SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team past Hudson Valley Community College 7-3 Saturday afternoon at the Canton Pavilion.

The Northstars continued their strong start to the second semester improving to 8-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in Region III.

Gruppo, a freshman defenseman, scored once in the first period and then twice more in the second to record his first career hat trick.

Matt Bailey (Parishville, N.Y.) and Kyle Laurie (Canton, N.Y.) each had five-point games for SUNY Canton. Bailey had two goals and three assists and Laurie scored once and set up four others.

Nick Emmick (Richford, N.Y.) added a goal and three assists and Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) had two assists. Dustin Deleel (Massena, N.Y.) had 26 saves and Spencer Utman (Brockville, Ontario) made seven combining in goal for the win.

Dane Anderson had a goal and an assist for the Vikings (8-7-2, 3-5). Mark Smetanka and Brett Holmes also scored and Devon Lent recorded 22 saves in goal.
