DeMars, Shults and Brauchle Honored by Sunrise

(Canton, N.Y.)- Three members of the 2008 SUNY Canton
baseball team were recognized recently at the Sunrise Conference / Region
X Tournament. Junior centerfielder Jacques DeMars (Vermontville, N.Y.)
and freshman infielder Keith Shults (Canajoharie, N.Y.) were both named
to the all-Sunrise Conference / Region X Team and each received a Region
X Gold Glove Award along with freshman pitcher Anthony Brauchle (Clay,
N.Y.).
DeMars was the top offensive performer for the Roos this spring. The business administration major led the team in batting (.368), hits (25), runs (23), doubles (4), home runs (3), slugging percentage (.618) and on-base percentage (.463). He also tied for the team-lead in triples with two and drove in 13 runs. In center field DeMars recorded a .925 fielding percentage with four assists.
Shults pitched and played shortstop and first base and batted .309 with a grand slam home run, two doubles, 13 runs and 14 RBIs. The civil engineering major stole a team-high six bases, had a .903 fielding percentage and recorded a 2.84 earned-run average with eight strikeouts.
Brauchle pitched in six games for SUNY Canton and finished 3-2 with a 5.61 earned-run average and 23 strikeouts. The law enforcement leadership management major didn't commit an error in 13 fielding attempts on the mound.
