Roos Fall to Fisher College 20-5 and 9-1
Rutland rips two triples for SUNY Canton
(Boston, Mass.)- The SUNY Canton men's baseball team opened their season on Saturday with a doubleheader against three-time Sunrise Conference champions Fisher College in Boston, Mass. The Roos dropped both games losing 20-5 and 9-1.
In the opener the Falcons (2-0 Sunrise Conference, 9-12 overall) broke open a 4-1 game scoring eight runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Sophomore Richard Rutland (Newfane, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 for the Roos (0-2, 0-2) with a triple and three RBIs. Freshman Pete Collins (Cobleskill, N.Y.) also had two hits along with a double.
Freshmen Kyle Kearney (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Dylan Gronowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) combined to give up 18 hits and five walks with four strikeouts in the loss.
Zach Thompson went the distance for Fisher as he fanned 12 batters and scattered six hits over seven innings.
In the nightcap freshman Anthony Brauchle (Clay, N.Y.) took the loss as he allowed 11 hits and struck out three in six innings. Rutland ripped his second triple of the day and added another RBI and junior Jacques DeMars (Vermontville, N.Y.) went 2-for-3.
Jarlin Gomez and Kevin Ryan combined to shut down the Roos allowing just four hits while recording 10 strikeouts in seven innings. Thomas Engelhardt powered the offense going 4-for-4 with two triples, a double and three RBIs.
