Matt Holcomb tags out a Vermont Tech runner at third on Saturday

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton lost to Vermont Technical College 9-4 and 11-3 in a Sunrise Conference doubleheader Saturday at Clarkson University.

In the opening game Pete Collins (Cobleskill, N.Y.) smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and then Dominic Creazzo (Massena, N.Y.) doubled and scored in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Nathan Besaw (Massena, N.Y.) giving the Roos a 4-0 lead.

That lead would hold until Vermont Tech tied the game with four runs on four hits in the fourth inning. The Green Knights tacked on five more runs in the fifth inning for the final margin.

Matt Holcomb (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) added a double and a run for the Roos (4-6 Sunrise Conference, 4-10 overall). Kyle Kearney (Fayetteville, N.Y.) allowed nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings. Jeff LaDuca (Syracuse, N.Y.) gave up six hits and one walk in three innings.

Calvin Russell led Vermont Tech going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Jeff Savage and Blake Wright combined on a six-hitter with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap Wright pitched a complete game for Vermont Tech scattering five hits over seven innings while recording five strikeouts and one walk. Savage had an RBI double and Wright went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Steven Wozniak (Redwood, N.Y.) allowed five hits with a pair of strikeouts in 4 1/3 for the Roos. Jerome Branagan (Croghan, N.Y.) came on in relief and struck out three batters while giving up two hits. Keith Shults (Canajoharie, N.Y.) drove in two runs on two sacrifice flyouts. Brandon Mahler (Malone, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a double and Sean Swinegar (Schenectady, N.Y.) added a single and two runs.
