Jacques DeMars ripped a three-run homer on Tuesday
Roos Lose to Cazenovia 8-1, 14-6
(Cazenovia, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton lost both ends of a baseball doubleheader on Tuesday to Cazenovia College falling 8-1 and 14-6.
In the first game the Roos (0-6) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Pete Collins (Cobleskill, N.Y.) walked, advanced to third on a single from Keith Schults (Canajoharie, N.Y.) and scored when Schults stole second. But thats all the offense the Roos could muster as they were held to four hits the rest of the game. Tom Coles (Norwich, N.Y.), Nate Besaw (Massena, N.Y.), and Dominic Creazzo (Massena, N.Y.) also singled for the Roos.
Kyle Kearney (Fayetteville, N.Y.) went five inning for SUNY Canton allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Lucky McFadden (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) pitched one inning and gave up one run on three hits.
Chad Salls and Adam Coglitore each doubled and drove in two runs for the Wildcats and Kyle Hill notched the win striking out four and surrendering two hits in five innings.
In the nightcap Jacques DeMars (Vermontville, N.Y.) smacked a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to stake the Roos to a 3-0 lead. That margin would stretch to 5-1 after the top of the fourth before the Wildcats came alive scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning and then seven more in the bottom of the fifth inning.
DeMars finished 2-for-4 for SUNY Canton. Schults went 2-for-3 and Matt Holcomb (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) added a double. Anthony Brauchle (Clay, N.Y.) went 3 2/3 innings and allowed six runs on 10 hits. Steven Wozniak (Redwood, N.Y.) gave up six runs on four hits in one inning and Dylan Gronowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) gave up two runs on five hits in one inning of work.
Bryan Atkins belted a pair of home runs and drove in five runs for Cazenovia. Coglitore and Adam Baldassarre also homered and Tim Maurizio, Joe Pallone, and Kyle Warner combined to allow six hits and five walks with four strikeouts.
