Small logo Roos Will Face Vermont Tech In Region X Tournament

(Canton, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton will head to Boston, Mass. this week to compete in the Sunrise Conference / Region X baseball tournament hosted by Fisher College.

The No. 3 Roos are currently 6-6 in the conference and 6-10 overall and will face No. 2 Vermont Technical College at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 in the opening round of the double elimination tournament at Haverhill Stadium. Top-seeded Fisher will play No. 4 College of St. Joseph in the other first round game at 3 p.m.

The losers’ bracket game will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday night. The winners’ bracket game will be at 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. The winner of the losers’ bracket game will face the loser of the winners’ bracket game on Thursday at 4 p.m. The winners of these two games will meet on Friday, May 9 at 12 p.m. in the championship game. If both teams end up with one loss after this game a deciding game will be played on Friday.

The Roos split with Vermont Tech this season. SUNY Canton swept the Green Knights 4-3 and 13-6 on April 27 and Vermont Tech beat the Roos 9-4 and 11-3 on April 26.

Junior centerfielder Jacques DeMars (Vermontville, N.Y.) leads the Roos in batting (.411), runs (20), home runs (3) and doubles (4). Freshman catcher Pete Collins (Cobleskill, N.Y.) has driven in a team-high 16 runs and is batting .357 with two doubles and a home run. Freshman infielder Keith Shults (Canajoharie, N.Y.) is batting .318 with 14 RBIs, two doubles and a grand slam. Shults also has a 2.84 earned-run average with eight strikeouts.

Freshman pitcher Anthony Brauchle (Clay) has recorded a 6.75 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 26.2 innings and freshman pitcher Kyle Kearney (Fayetteville, N.Y.) has recorded a team-high 21 strikeouts in 27 innings.
