(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton baseball team has played several close games this year and they finally broke through on Saturday sweeping the College of St. Joseph 15-5 and 11-1 in a pair of emotional five-inning games in Canton.

The Roos picked up their first wins of the year following a pre-game ceremony honoring former SUNY Canton baseball player Jerome Branagan who was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident in May of 2008. Jerome's mother and father and brother along with many other family members and friends were on hand as a banner was unveiled bearing Jerome's name and his No. 10 that he wore at SUNY Canton. The banner will always hang under the scoreboard in right field. Jerome's mother, Kathy and brother, Justin, threw out the ceremonial first pitches to start the game.

The Roos then went out and played their most productive games of the year banging out a combined 26 hits in both games.

SUNY Canton fell behind 1-0 after the first inning but then exploded for six runs on five runs in a decisive second inning. The Roos added one more run in the third and pounded out eight more in the fourth to put the game away.

In the opener Adam Blair (Perth, Ontario) shut down the Fighting Saints with a solid outing on the mound. Blair allowed just three hits and struck out seven with only two walks in five innings.

Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, three stolen bases and two runs to lead the Roos. Matt Myers (Brandon, Vt.) went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and two stolen bases. Ramsey Locke (Canton, N.Y.) drove in two runs with two singles, Jacques DeMars (Vermontville, N.Y.) had three RBIs and Jared Wallace (New Russia, N.Y.) added two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Brandon Fox went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run. Michale Riel yielded 14 hits and one walk with one strikeout in four innings of work.

In the nightcap the Roos jumped out early with five runs in the first inning. Blair went 2-for-2 with three runs and four stolen bases. Nate Besaw (Massena, N.Y.) added two hits, two runs and two stolen bases and Myers contributed two hits, including a double, two stolen bases and an RBI.

Justin Storie (Hammond, N.Y.) turned in another solid performance on the mound for the Roos as he scattered six hits over five innings and recorded 10 strikeouts.

Fox added three more singles to his day and Donald Purcell went 1-for-3 with a double and St.Joseph's only run of the second game.
