Small logo Roos Fall to Fisher 9-1 in Sunrise Conference Tournament

(Lynn, Mass.)- The SUNY Canton baseball team outplayed top-seeded Fisher College for six innings on Friday in the first round of the Sunrise Conference tournament. But the Roos couldn't hold a slim lead late in the game and ended up losing 9-1 to the Falcons at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass. The Roos will play No. 3 Vermont Technical College, who lost to No. 2 University of Maine at Presque Isle 8-5 in the other first-round game, in the second round on Saturday at 10 a.m. The winner of that game will play again at 6 p.m. against the loser of the winner's bracket game that will be played at 2 p.m.

Sophomore Jeff LaDuca (Syracuse, N.Y.) pitched one his best games as a Roo as he struck out two and allowed just five hits, two walks and one earned run in five innings of work.

Justin Storie (Hammond, N.Y.) came on in relief and gave up four hits and four runs with one strikeout in two innings. Matt Myers (Brandon, Vt.) pitched the final inning and surrendered three runs on one hit and three walks.

The Roos (4-13) manufactured their lone run in the third inning. Adam Blair (Perth, Ontario) singled and then advanced to third on a pair of stolen bases. Blair was then plated by a sacrifice fly to center field by Jacques DeMars (Vermontville, N.Y.). Fisher rallied to put up four runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and three more in the eighth.

Blair finished with two hits for the Roos. DeMars was 1-for-3 and Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a double.

Jarlin Gomez fanned 11 batters and allowed just four hits and one earned run in eight innings to lead Fisher. Edwin Pena went 2-for-4 with two RBIs Tom Englehardt went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
