
2007-08 Men's Basketball
(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's basketball team kicked off
their 2007-08 season Friday night against one of the top NAIA Division
II schools. The Roos fell to Point Park University (Pa.) 117-72 at the
Lord Amherst Tournament hosted by Daemen College in Buffalo. Point Park
is the defending American Mideast Conference champions. They posted
a 29-2 record last year, made an appearance in the NAIA national tournament
and received several votes in the pre-season Division II poll.
SUNY Canton (0-1) fell behind 58-30 at halftime and couldn't overcome a 48 percent shooting night by the Pioneers.
Sophomore guard James Morrison (Paisley, Scotland) poured in six 3-pointers and scored 18 points to pace the Roos.
Andre Miles (Buffalo, N.Y.) added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Malcolm Morrison (Paisley, Scotland) contributed 11 points and three assists. Andrew White (Bronx, N.Y.) and Charles McCoy (Bronx, N.Y.) each added seven points apiece.
Point Park was led by D'Veron Harris who dropped in five 3-pointers for a game-high 24 points. Brad Fusco added 16 points and six boards. Tony Townsend and Chivas Whipple each had 13 points and Dan Muto chipped in with 12 points and four steals.
SUNY Canton will play Daemen College on Saturday at 4 p.m. and the Pioneers will play Fisher College at 2 p.m.
