Roos Fall To Top-Ranked Bengals 80-68

Small logo (Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's basketball team lost to the University of Maine at Fort Kent 80-68 Saturday night at Clarkson University's Alumni Gym. The Roos fell to 3-8 in the Sunrise Conference and 4-17 overall while the Bengals, the top-ranked team in the conference, improved to 10-1 and 14-12.

After a solid first 20 minutes the Roos came out flat in the second half and the Bengals quickly stretched a two-point halftime lead into a 10-point margin with just two minutes off the clock.

SUNY Canton battled back to pull within four points with 2:58 remaining but Fort Kent answered with three straight baskets and four free throws in the final 39 seconds to seal the win.

Byron Jones (Glenarden, Md.) came within two rebounds of a triple-double for SUNY Canton as he finished with 25 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and four steals.

Andre White (Bronx, N.Y.) added nine points and four rebounds. Josh Wilson (Chaumont, N.Y.) had eight points and three boards and James Morrison (Paisley, Scotland) and Wes Schofell (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) each contributred six points apiece.

The Bengals were led by Othniel Hyliger and Hamill Bassue who each posted a double-double. Hyliger had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Bassue had 13 points and 15 rebounds. Gediminas Sumyla added 19 points and eight assists and Jimmy Lopez drained five 3-pointers for 15 points.
