John, Valentin and Men's Basketball Team Honored by Sunrise Conference

(Canton, N.Y.)- Junior forward Silvon John (Bronx, N.Y.), junior guard Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) and the SUNY Canton men's basketball team all received honors from the Sunris Conference on Friday. John was named to the all-Sunrise Conference First Team, Valentin made the second team and the Roos were awarded the Team Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year. The awards were announced at a banquet prior to the start of the conference tournament in Concord, N.H.

John was the conference's second-leading rebounder pulling in 11.0 per game. He was also second in double-doubles (14) and fifth in field goal percentage (.510) while playing nearly 30 minutes a game.

Valentin was the third leading scorer in the conference averaging 19.8 points per game. He was second in assists (4.3), 10th in field goal percentage (.440) and he sank a team-high 47 3-pointers averaging 35 minutes a game.
