Small logo Roos Tripped Up By Machias 89-72

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- Despite a strong first half the SUNY Canton men's basketball team couldn't overcome the University of Maine at Machias as they lost to the Clippers 89-72 Sunday afternoon at Clarkson University. The Roos dropped to 0-3 in the Sunrise Conference and 0-12 overall. Machias remained unbeaten in the league moving to 5-0 and 12-5 overall.

SUNY Canton trailed by just three points at the break, 40-37, following a back-and-forth first half that saw seven lead changes and five ties. The Roos shot 50 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes and 46 percent for the game.

The Roos last lead of the game came with 2:58 left in the first half off a basket from Josh Wilson (Chaumont, N.Y.). The Clippers then used a 12-5 run to start the second half to pull away for the win.

Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) scored a season-high 29 points and dished out five assists to lead the Roos.

Silvon John (Bronx, N.Y.) added 21 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Wilson finished with seven points, four rebounds and four assists and Deric Alston (Jacksonville, N.C.) chipped in with six points, five assists and four rebounds.

Zach Armstrong led the Clippers with 16 points. Eric Righter had 10 points and seven rebounds and Brian Alexander added nine points and five assists.
