2/21/09
(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's basketball team couldn't hold a half-time lead as they lost to the University of Maine at Fort Kent 82-71 Saturday night at Clarkson's Alumni Gym. The Roos are now 2-11 in the Sunrise Conference and 2-21 overall and will play their final regular season game on Sunday against the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Fort Kent improved to 10-2 and 19-10.
The Roos built a 40-37 lead at halftime after shooting 48 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and outrebounding the Bengals 26-18. SUNY Canton was also 5-for-10 from beyond the arc in the first half, two coming from Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) who scored 14 of his game-high 27 points in the opening half.
The Bengals depth and the inside play of freshman Brandon Fox proved to be too much in the second half for the Roos. Fort Kent erased the three-point deficit with a 17-4 run to start the second half. Fox worked his way inside for 15 of his team-high 21 points in the final 20 minutes. Fox also had nine rebounds and two blocks.

Silvon John (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 16 points and pulled in 11 boards for his 13th double-double of the year.
