SUNY Canton Joins "Hoops for Hank"
(Canton, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton, in conjunction with St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University and SUNY Potsdam will be holding "Hoops for Hank", a combined effort to help a local man in his battle against cancer.
Henry "Hank" LaQuier was diagnosed with Metastatic Seminoma and has been undergoing intense chemotherapy sessions. The long-time basketball coach was forced to leave his position to battle his illness and all proceeds from "Hoops for Hank" will go towards LaQuier and his family to help pay for medical costs.
"I think this is a great opportunity to help out a friend who has given so much to the North Country basketball community," said first-year SUNY Canton head coach Keith Sullivan. "Hank has been, and continues to be, a great leader and mentor for the children of Canton and to be able to help one of our own get through a very difficult time is a very rewarding feeling. The response we've gotten for this benefit truly shows the impact Hank has had on so many lives throughout the years."
The four colleges will be hosting a three-hour basketball clinic for boys of all ages from 1-4 on Sunday, October 19th. The clinics will include stations, lectures, games and competitions that will be supervised by college coaches and players from each school. All coaches and players in the North Country are invited to participate and the cost is $10 per player.
