(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton athletic department has announced that Keith Sullivan has been hired as the new men’s basketball coach. Sullivan replaces Craig Woods who resigned this spring after two years leading the program.

Sullivan recently finished his second year as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, St. Lawrence University, while completing his master’s degree in educational leadership. In his first year as an assistant the Saints won the Liberty League regular season and tournament championships and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Sullivan also worked with the St. Lawrence intramural program and assisted in game management duties with other sports.

As a player at St. Lawrence Sullivan, who earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, averaged 5.3 points, 2.1 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 97 career games. During his senior year he led the Saints with 82 assists and earned Honorable Mention all-league honors.

Prior to joining the St. Lawrence coaching staff Sullivan worked for a year at U.S. Trust Company as a client relationship associate.

“We are very fortunate and happy to have Keith join our staff,” said SUNY Canton Athletic Director Diane Para. “He is a nice fit for our department and his experience as both a player and coach at St. Lawrence will be extremely valuable as we continue to grow as a four-year athletic program. Keith brings a winning and enthusiastic attitude and we are very excited about the future of our men’s basketball program.”

In addition to coaching Sullivan will be the SUNY Canton Director of Intramurals and Free Recreation.
