Men's Cross Country Announces Team Awards
(Canton, N.Y.)- The men's cross country team announced their 2009 team awards at the athletic department's year-end picnic on May 9.
The Roos Most Valuable Player was sophomore Byron Danis (Rensselaer Falls, N.Y.). The criminal investigations major made the all-Sunrise Conference Team after finishing in a team-leading third place at the 2008 Sunrise Conference championship hosted by SUNY Canton. The Roos took second place at that meet. Danis also finished in 16th place at an NAIA qualifying meet in Nashville, Tenn. Nov. 8.
The Team Sportsmanship Award went to sophomore Justin Forth (Gouverneur, N.Y.). Forth joined Danis on the all-conference team and was the Roos top finisher in four meets this past fall including a 10th-place finish at the NAIA qualifying meet.
The Most Improved Runner was freshman Adam Benedict (Norfolk, N.Y.). At the qualifying meet Benedict recorded a personal-best time of 41:38.
The Coaches Award went to senior Matt Sanford (Tuppper Lake, N.Y.). Sanford battled injuries throughout the season that limited him to just one race but was a valuable leader for the Roos.
