Marquart Named Cross Country Coach
January 9, 2007
(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton athletic department is
pleased to announce that Canton native Chris Marquart has been hired as
the new
men’s and women’s cross country coach. SUNY Canton will begin
competition in the fall of 2007.
Marquart ran cross country for four years at Canton Central School and was also on the school’s indoor and spring track teams.
Following high school, Marquart ran for three years at SUNY Geneseo
where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary
education. During his senior year with the Knights, Marquart was
an assistant coach with the cross country teams at Keshequa High School
in Nuda, N.Y.
Marquart works as a residence hall director at SUNY Canton and
oversees the college’s running club which he started two years
ago. Marquart is currently working towards a master’s degree in
education from St. Lawrence University.
“We are very fortunate to have Chris join our department,” said
athletic director Diane Para. “Chris always puts a tremendous
effort into everything he does and we know he will do the same with
cross country. He has a genuine passion for running and we’re
happy to have someone like that begin the cross country program.”
