Men's Soccer Announces Team Awards
(Canton, N.Y.)- The men's soccer team announced their 2009 team awards at the athletic department's year-end picnic on May 9.
The Roos Most Valuable Player was sophomore midfielder Bismark Ansah (Bronx, N.Y.). Ansah, who was named to the all-Sunrise Conference Team, led the Roos with 12 goals and 24 points.
The co-Most Valuable Defensive Players were sophomore defensemen Josh Avery (South Colton, N.Y.) and Josh Mowery (Elizabethtown, N.Y.). Avery, a sweeper, played in all 20 games and had one goal and four assists for six points. Mowery, a stopper, played in 19 games and had two goals and four assists for eight points. The two joined Ansah on the all-conference team and were part of a defensive corps that allowed just 1.4 goals per game with eight shutouts.
The Coaches Awards went to senior midfielder Dennis Salmon (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior forward Prince Sabatto (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). Salmon started all 20 games this year and had three assists. He was also recognized as one of the first four-year athletes in SUNY Canton history. Salmon joined Alicia Abbey and Kristi Farrell (basketball), Vanessa Badlam (soccer) and Jacques DeMars (baseball) for that honor. In four years Salmon has scored 17 goals with 12 assists for 46 career points.
Sabatto played in 18 games and was third on the team in scoring with six goals and three assists for 15 points.
