Martin Named Coordinator of Recruitment
April 25, 2007
(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton Athletic Department is
pleased to announce that men’s ice hockey coach Pat Martin has been
promoted to Coordinator of Recruitment. SUNY Canton also
announces that a combined head coaching position for women’s volleyball
and softball has been created and will be filled following a search
this summer.
Martin will relinquish his coaching duties to focus on his new position. In seven years as head coach, Martin has guided SUNY Canton into the postseason five times, including four trips to the national tournament and a runner-up finish in 2001-02. This past season, Martin led SUNY Canton into the Region III Tournament and was named Coach of the Year. A search has begun to name Martin’s replacement.
In his new capacity, Martin will oversee the athletic department’s recruiting efforts as the Roos transition into a four-year athletic program beginning this fall. Martin will serve as the direct liaison for the athletic department with the Office of Admissions and work cooperatively with Admissions staff members on open houses, admitted student days and other Admissions functions.
“I am very pleased that we have been able to aggressively move
forward towards our goal of becoming a four-year athletic program,”
stated Athletic Director Diane Para. “This is a crucial step for
enhancing our day-to-day operations and is another example of thinking
towards our future and being proactive with solutions now. Having
a full-time recruitment coordinator who will direct and oversee
recruiting efforts for the department will have a positive impact on
the growth of our program as a four-year competitor. Coach Martin
has proven to be one of our recruiting leaders and we are anxious to
put his skills and talents to work for our entire program.”
