Strong Second Half Carries Roos Past UMM

Small logo(Machias, Maine)-The SUNY Canton women's basketball team rebounded from a difficult first half to knock off the University of Maine at Machias 64-46 Sunday afternoon in Machias. The Roos remained undefeated in the Sunrise Conference improving to 5-0 and 5-6 overall. The Clippers dropped to 1-3 in the conference and 7-11 overall.

SUNY Canton shot just 22 percent in the first half (8-for-36) but shot 51 percent in the second half and out scored Machias 42-26.

Lauren Ploof (Hammond, N.Y.) recorded her second straight double-double to lead the Roos on Sunday. Ploof had a tremendous game with 20 points, 11 rebounds, eight steals and four assists.

Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) and Megan Davis (Hammond, N.Y.) also reached double figures for SUNY Canton. LaFave had 12 points and five boards and Davis had 11 points and three rebounds. Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) added eight points and Mindy Small (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) chipped in with six points and six rebounds.

Sara Wells scored 18 points and grabbed five boards for the Clippers. Angela Moody added 11 points and eight rebounds and Ashley Doten contributed nine points and 14 rebounds.
