Small logo (Syracuse, N.Y.)- Led by Most Valuable Player Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) the SUNY Canton women's basketball team captured the Onondaga Community College Classic with a 53-38 win over Herkimer County Community College in the championship game on Sunday in Syracuse. The Roos beat Anne Arundel Community College 68-35 in the opening round on Saturday.

LaFave had eight points against Herkimer after dropping in 20 points against Anne Arundel to take home the tournament's top honor. Five of LaFave's points on Sunday came in the second half in which SUNY Canton out scored the Generals 29-16 to break open a two-point halftime lead.

Lauren Ploof (Hammond, N.Y.) and Jackie Maynard (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) joined LaFave on the all-tournament team. Ploof scored a team-high 12 points on Sunday and had four points on Saturday and Maynard added eight points in each game.

Erin Tulip (Constable, N.Y.) also had eight points against Herkimer and Alicia Abbey (Mayville, N.Y.) chipped in with six.

Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) scored 10 points against Anne Arundel for the Roos and Tulip chipped in with seven.
