Roos Fall to Daemen 98-53 In Season Opener

(Amherst, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's basketball team opened their season on Saturday with a 98-53 loss to Daemen College in Amherst. The Wildcats are ranked 17th in the preseason NAIA Division II national poll.
Junior forward Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) dropped in 18 points on 9 of 19 shooting and grabbed three rebound to lead the Roos (0-1).
Senior guard Kristi Farrell (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) drained a pair of 3-pointers and finished with nine points. Freshman guard Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) also scored nine points and had four rebounds and two steals.
Senior forward Alicia Abbey (Mayville, N.Y.) added seven points and four rebounds and sophomore forward Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) chipped in with seven points and five boards.
The Wildcats (1-0) were led by Sarah Soroka who pumped in 22 points, made eight steals and grabbed five rebounds. Mary Kate Wilson added 18 points, five rebounds and two steals and Sarah Bogardus contributed 17 points and six caroms.
