Roos Suffer First Conference Loss Losing to Fort Kent 59-56

(Fort Kent, Maine)- The SUNY Canton women's basketball team erased a second-half double digit deficit but in the end couldn't hold off the University of Maine at Fort Kent as they lost to the Bengals 59-56 Saturday in Maine. The Roos suffered their first Sunrise Conference loss falling to 3-1 and 4-11 overall while Fort Kent remained unbeaten in the conference at 5-0 and 12-5 overall.
SUNY Canton trailed by 13 points with 10 minutes left but pulled off a furious comeback to pull ahead by four with two minutes remaining. But the Bengals battled back and escaped with the three-point win.
Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) led the Roos with 18 points and five rebounds.
Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) added 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Teresa Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) had seven points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals and Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) supplied eight points.
Talisha Herring scored 16 points and dished out 11 assists to pace the Bengals. Ashley Ames added 16 points, six rebounds and six blocked shots and Kristen Violette chipped in with 14 points and eight boards.
