(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's basketball team couldn't dig themselves out of a large halftime deficit as they lost to the Unviversity of Maine at Fort Kent 58-48 Saturday night at Clarkson Alumni Gym. The Roos had their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 8-3 in the Sunrise Conference and 9-14 overall. The Bengals stayed undefeated in conference play improving to 11-0 and 20-5 overall.

SUNY Canton, who was playing without starting center Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) and point guard Mindy Small (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) who were both out with injuries, trailed 38-11 at the half after having trouble putting the ball in the basket. For the game the Roos shot just 29 percent from the floor.

SUNY Canton did put together a 13-4 run late in the second half to pull within 13 but the Roos wouldn't get any closer until Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) nailed a 3-pointer with under a second left in regulation. Kenyon was fouled on the play but missed the free throw for a four-point play.

Kenyon led the Roos with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and four assists.
