Small logo Roos Awarded Third Seed in Conference Tournament

(Canton,N.Y.)- SUNY Canton has earned the third seed in the upcoming Sunrise Conference women's basketball championsips. The Roos will play No. 2 University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. at New Hampshire Technical College in Concord. Top-seeded University of Maine at Fort Kent will play No. 4 Fisher College at 1 p.m. The championship game will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Roos and Owls both finished 9-3 in the conference but Presque Isle was awarded the higher seed due to a tie-breaker scenerio. The two teams split during the regular season. SUNY Canton rallied to claim a 57-51 win on Feb. 22. Jackie Maynard (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Nicole Davidson (Hammond, N.Y.) provided a spark in a key first-half run and finished with 13 points and eight boards.

For their efforts Maynard was named the Sunrise Conference Player of the Week and Davidson was named the Rookie of the Week. Presque Isle beat the Roos on their home floor in January 73-63.
