Small logo Roos Dropped By SUNYIT 52-48

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton and SUNYIT slugged it out in a non-conference women's basketball game Thursday night and the Wildcats came away with a 52-48 win over the Roos at Clarkson’s Alumni Gym. The Roos fell to 5-13 while SUNYIT improved to 11-9.

Both teams struggled to get into any offensive groove as there were a combined 50 fouls called in the game. The Roos shot just 25 percent from the floor and the Wildcats didn't fare much better shooting 26 percent from the field.

SUNY Canton led by one at halftime, 21-20, but fell behind early in the second half thanks to a 9-3 run by SUNYIT.

The game stayed close the rest of the second half with the Wildcats largest lead just six points with 4:32 left on the clock. The Roos did pull within two following a free throw from Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) with 1:11 remaining but misfired on a pair of shots down the stretch.

LaFave posted her first double-double of the season finishing with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) added seven points and five rebounds off the bench for the Roos. Mindy Small (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) also had seven points and Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) contributed six points and nine rebounds.

The Wildcats were led by Caitlin Cottell who had 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Tiffany Holthouse added 10 points and four boards and Tamara Williams had nine points and 11 rebounds.
