Erin Tulip goes up for the ball against the Wildcats

October 24, 2007

Small logo (Canton, N.Y.)- Thanks to a stellar game from goalie Brenna Sexton (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and a little help from the posts the SUNY Canton women's soccer team was able to keep their scoreless streak alive with a 4-0 win over SUNYIT on Wednesday in Canton.

The Roos (13-2) shut out an opponent for the sixth straight time and won their 11th game in a row against the Wildcats (1-16-1).

Sexton recorded a season-high 11 saves and made several point blank stops in the second half. SUNYIT also had several good scoring chances negated by the posts and crossbar.

The Roos jumped out quickly on the Wildcats when Erin Tulip (Constable, N.Y.) scored just 19 seconds into the game from Justine Monahan (Ellington, Conn.). Lauren Ploof (Hammond, N.Y.) made it 2-0 when she scored in the 10th minute off a feed from Niki Perkins (Potsdam, N.Y.) and then Ploof set up Monahan for the final goal of the half with 31:26 remaining and a 3-0 lead at the break.

The only goal of the second half came after Amanda DeLyser (Marion, N.Y.) put a direct kick on goal that Wildcats goalie Laurel Hosmer couldn't control. The rebound went right to Ashley Winfield (Fort Plain, N.Y.) who promptly banged it in the back of the net. Hosmer finished with nine saves.
