Small logo (Portland, Maine)-The SUNY Canton women's soccer team will play for the Sunrise Conference Championship after beating No. 4 College of St. Joseph 6-0 in the semifinals in Portland, Maine on Friday. The top-seeded Roos will face No. 2 University of Maine at Fort Kent in the championship game on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Bengals beat No. 3 Vermont Technical College 2-0 in the other semifinal.

SUNY Canton has now won 13 straight games and posted eight straight shutouts.

On Friday, Lauren Ploof (Hammond, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Roos in the ninth minute when she took a pass from Niki Perkins (Potsdam, N.Y.) and lofted a shot past Saints goalie Irene Tompkins.

Justine Monahan (Ellington,Conn.) made it 2-0 Roos when she followed a shot that was deflected by Tompkins off the crossbar and rolled back out in front of the net. Perkins then scored three straight goals, two to end the half that gave SUNY Canton a 4-0 lead at break. Perkins third goal came in the 62nd minute unassisted.

Monahan capped off the scoring from Ploof's third assist of the game in the 68th minute.

Brenna Sexton (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) notched her 12th shutout of the season with two saves.

Tompkins finished with 24 saves for the Saints.
