The Roos celebrate their Sunrise Conference Championship

(Portland, Maine)- The SUNY Canton women's soccer team continued
their defensive dominance as they shut down the University of Maine
at Fort Kent 3-0 on Sunday to win the Sunrise Conference championship.
The Roos have not allowed a goal in their last nine contests as they won their 14th straight game improving to 16-2 overall. SUNY Canton now advances to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship at Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla. starting on Nov. 14.
On Sunday, the Roos out shot Fort Kent 22-11 and allowed only a few good scoring chances by the Bengals. Those chances were denied by Roos goalie Brenna Sexton (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) who had six saves.
SUNY Canton's first goal came 18 minutes into the first half. Lauren Ploof (Hammond, N.Y.) jumped on a pass from Shirley DuBrey (Saranac, N.Y.) and lofted a high shot past Bengals goalie Liz Laplante from 15 yards out. It was Ploof's second goal of the tournament.
The Roos went ahead 2-0 with three minutes left in the first half when Amanda DeLyser (Marion, N.Y.) crossed a past from the right wing that went to Niki Perkins (Potsdam, N.Y.) who tapped it to DuBrey who banged it past Laplante.
SUNY Canton's final goal came in the 48th minute when Erin Tulip (Constable, N.Y.) pounced on a loose ball, sprinted through two defenders and slid a shot into the goal.
Laplante finished with 12 saves for Fort Kent, who end the year at 11-6-2.
