(Canton, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton will kick off the 24th annual NAIA Women's
Soccer National Championship when they play McKendree University (Ill.)
on Wed. November 14 at 11 a.m.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the brackets on Thursday for the 20-team tournament, which will be hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. The tournament will be held November 14-20 at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
The Roos (16-2) have been awarded the 16th seed after beating the University of Maine at Fort Kent 3-0 to win the Region X championship in Portland, Maine on Nov. 4. McKendree (17-4-1) has been awarded the 17th seed after capturing the Region V championship on Nov. 7. The Bearcats tied Benedictine (Kansas) 2-2 after regulation and two overtimes and then advanced on penalty kicks 5-4. The winner will move on to play top-seeded Lee University (Tenn.) (20-1) on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m.
This is SUNY Canton's first year as a member of the NAIA. The Roos finished undefeated in the Sunrise Conference with a 12-0 mark and will carry a 14-game unbeaten steak into Florida. SUNY Canton has also recorded nine straight shutouts and has not allowed a goal since Sept. 29.
This is the Bearcats third-straight trip to the NAIA national tournament
and their fourth trip in the last five years.
