Outlook Capsule: The Kangaroos enter their first season as a four-year soccer team this year and will look to ride the momentum of an outstanding season in 2006 when they tied a school record with 12 wins and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region III tournament…The Kangaroos seem poised to do just that as they have 13 returning players for third-year head coach Teresa Mickler, including their top four scorers who combined for a remarkable 44 goals and 37 assists and an entire defensive corps that allowed a measly 1.8 goals per game...The top four scorers include sophomore Niki Perkins who fired in 22 goals and had 56 points, sophomore Shirley DuBrey (11 goals, 29 points), junior Erin Tulip (7 goals, 23 points) and sophomore Lauren Ploof (4 goals, 17 points)...The defensive corps will be led by sophomore all-conference goalie Brenna Sexton who recorded a 1.50 goals-against average and a .828 save percentage with two shutouts in 12 games...Joining Sexton on defense will be outside fullbacks Jackie Maynard (So., 1 assist) and Tory Ellison (Jr.) and two players that manned the sweeper position in different years. Sophomore Sam Creeley started all 18 games as a freshman last year and had a goal and an assist and senior Brandi Moran returns for SUNY Canton following a one-year layoff after a stellar two-year career when the Kangaroos were a two-year program. Moran had two goals on eight shots during her sophomore year. Also expected to join the defensive unit will be former player Vanessa Badlam, who also played two years for SUNY Canton like Moran, and sophomore Amanda DeLyser who had three goals and 10 points in her freshman campaign...Also returning this year are sophomores Kendra Harris (3 goals, 7 points) and Aimee Bookmiller...Perkins and Ploof joined Sexton on the all-conference team and were also named to the all-Region III Second Team...The Kangaroos open their season againt SUNY Potsdam on Sept. 8 in Potsdam....Their first Sunrise Conference game will be at home against the College of St. Joseph on Sept. 15.
